NIX Solutions: TikTok Overtook YouTube In Average Watch Time in the US and UK

Analytical platform App Annie found that American and British Android users prefer to spend more time on TikTok than on Youtube. However, Google remains the leader in total views due to its larger audience. App Annie praised the rise of TikTok, calling it “revolutionizing the world of streaming and social media.”

The average time users watch videos on TikTok was 24.5 hours per month, while on Youtube they spend 22 hours. In the UK, the service of the Chinese ByteDance became the first in terms of personal time spent in the summer of 2020, says Habr.

Youtube manages to maintain its lead in total time spent with 2 billion users versus 700 million for TikTok in 2020.

Analysts say TikTok is used primarily on mobile devices. In their opinion, an interface with automatic vertical scrolling promotes greater engagement.

App Annie did not do research in China, where TikTok is known as Douyin.

Google launched its TikTok counterpart, Youtube Shorts, in test mode in India last September. By the beginning of 2021, the application began to collect more than 3.5 billion views, notes NIX Solutions. In May, Google announced the creation of the YouTube Shorts Fund, which will pay a total of $100 million to creators of videos on the platform.

TikTok has become the most downloaded app in 2020, according to App Annie. Former US President Donald Trump tried to ban the service, accusing it of a threat to the country’s national security.

AndroidPolice reported that the Youtube app on Android has been installed over 10 billion times. The total number of active users of video hosting exceeds 3 billion people.
