YouTube CEO Neal Mohan has named AI as one of the company’s four “big bets” for 2025. The platform is investing in AI tools for creators, including idea generation, thumbnail creation, and simultaneous translation. This month, an automatic dubbing feature will be available to all creators in the YouTube Partner Program, allowing them to expand their audience with minimal effort. AI will also play a role in determining user age to suggest appropriate content and in protecting creators from AI-generated impersonations.
AI’s Role in Copyright Protection and User Safety
YouTube plans to expand its collaboration with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to protect artists, actors, musicians, and athletes from unauthorized AI-generated likenesses or voices. The CAA will enhance YouTube’s existing Content ID system by detecting AI-created images or voice replicas.
Later this year, YouTube will implement machine learning technology to estimate users’ ages for better content recommendations. However, Mohan did not disclose how this technology will work or address potential AI errors.
AI in Content Creation and YouTube’s Broader Goals
Over the past year, YouTube has introduced AI-powered tools to generate images, video backgrounds, and soundtracks for short videos. However, this has sparked controversy, with critics arguing that AI-generated content could flood the platform and overshadow original works.
Beyond AI, YouTube has set ambitious goals for 2025, adds NIX Solutions. The company aims to reclaim its cultural leadership from TikTok, position itself as the new Hollywood, and shift focus to TV screens, which have surpassed mobile devices in YouTube viewership.
As YouTube continues to integrate AI into its platform, we’ll keep you updated on how these developments unfold.
