In April, TikTok short video service topped the global app revenue ranking. This is evidenced by the data of the analytical company Sensor Tower.
In the reporting period, TikTok and its Chinese version of Douyin received a total of $ 78 million in revenue from in-app purchases, which is 10 times more than a year earlier. At the same time, 87% of this amount was accounted for by Douyin.
A focus on in-app purchases has allowed TikTok to bypass established market applications such as YouTube, Tinder and Netflix, which rely more on subscriptions, notes NIX Solutions.
According to Sensor Tower, in the first quarter of 2020, TikTok and Douyin received 315 million downloads worldwide. A year earlier, this figure was 187 million.
According to analysts, the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to the popularity of the application.
