The social network Threads has officially changed its domain from Threads.net to Threads.com. This shift comes alongside several improvements to the platform’s web version, enhancing user experience with tools such as easy access to saved posts, likes, and new functions for content creators.
Threads initially operated under the domain Threads.net because Threads.com was owned by a startup affiliated with the corporate messenger Slack. In September 2024, Meta acquired the Threads.com domain and started redirecting users to Threads.net. However, as of today, entering Threads.com in the address bar will take users directly to the platform, while Threads.net now redirects to the new domain.
According to Meta, this change is aimed at making the platform more recognizable and competitive, particularly in comparison to the social network X, which uses a short and memorable domain name. With over 320 million monthly active users, Threads currently outpaces X, which had around 251 million users at the end of 2024. This milestone underlines the platform’s growing relevance and reach.
Improved Navigation and Creator Tools
Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri shared updates regarding the web version of the Threads app. Users can now view their custom feeds in the same order as in the mobile version. Moreover, saved and liked posts can be accessed directly through the main menu, eliminating the need for additional navigation columns.
One of the notable updates is the ability to copy posts as images, a convenient alternative to screenshots that simplifies resharing content on platforms like Instagram. The web version also introduces quick access to content creation through a “+” icon and a button for adding new columns, aiming to streamline user interaction, adds NIX Solutions.
New Tools for Discovering Familiar Creators
A new feature helps users locate and follow creators on Threads that they previously followed on X. This can be done by uploading a data archive from X directly into Threads. Until now, this process required manual searches. Currently, the feature is still in testing, but it’s expected to roll out more broadly soon—and we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
These improvements highlight Threads’ ongoing evolution as it seeks to establish a stronger presence in the competitive social media landscape.
