Riding the wave of AI hype, Meta has introduced a variety of features and capabilities, including AI-generated characters with unique profiles that some users have found “creepy and unnecessary.” Now, reports have surfaced that Instagram is testing a new “Write with Meta AI” feature designed to generate comment suggestions for users’ posts.
This feature can be accessed via the pencil icon next to the comment text line under the post. Once selected, Meta AI analyzes the image and generates three comment suggestions to choose from. If the user wants more suggestions, refreshing the page will prompt the AI to offer additional options.
In one example, Meta AI provided the following comment suggestions for a photo of a smiling man giving a thumbs-up in his living room:
- “Cute living room decor.”
- “I love the cozy atmosphere.”
- “Great place for a photo shoot.”
Reactions and Potential Rollout
According to a Meta spokesperson, “We’re regularly testing more features so you can use Meta AI in our apps. Beyond direct messages, you’ll find Meta AI in areas like comments, feed, groups, and search to make your experience more interesting and useful.”
However, not all users are likely to appreciate this new option, adds NIXSolutions. Some may feel their friends deserve genuine, thoughtful comments rather than AI-generated responses. On the other hand, users who typically leave large numbers of simple likes or basic comments—often expecting similar engagement in return—might find this feature convenient.
It’s worth noting that Meta has already been testing AI-generated comments on Facebook over the past year. As with any test feature, there’s no confirmation yet on when or if Instagram plans a wider release. We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
