A senior Meta executive showed employees screenshots of a preview of a new microblogging app being developed by the Instagram team. Codenamed “Project 92”, it may be renamed to Threads when released to the general public. The application will be based on Instagram, but will receive support for the ActivityPub decentralized protocol, which will allow accounts to be transferred to other platforms.
Security, ease of use and reliability are the main principles of development
Meta designs Threads with security, ease of use, and reliability in mind. The project is Meta’s answer to bloggers and community leaders who are looking for a smartly managed platform they can rely on. Bloggers are offered a stable place to work and expand their audience.
Celebrities support the project, talks with Oprah Winfrey and the Dalai Lama
Meta has already received celebrity endorsements and is in talks with Oprah Winfrey and the Dalai Lama, notes NIX Solutions. Work on the app began in January and it will be made available to the public as soon as possible, according to a Meta executive.
