Since launching the startup xAI last year, Elon Musk has been using his social network X as a sandbox to test the capabilities of the Grok AI model, such as summarizing news and current events. The platform has now introduced a “More about this account” feature, allowing paid subscribers to get aggregated information about any user using AI. So far, the results have not been impressive.
New Feature Overview
Paid users of Social Network X will now see a “Learn more about this account” button when they hover over a username. After clicking the button, a short overview of the user of interest will be created based on artificial intelligence. According to feedback from users who have tested the new feature, Grok sometimes offers general information about the account, but very often, the information turns out to be completely incorrect, notes NIX Solutions.
TechCrunch experts tested the new feature. For some of their peers, Grok gave general suggestions about the types of posts they share on the platform. One AI employee was labeled a specialist on Canada, although he wrote practically nothing on this topic. One editor turned into a breakfast expert, and the vice president of design and product at the startup Unacademy was misidentified as an Indian cricketer.
Feedback and Future Updates
As a result, the researchers concluded that in its current state, the new function does not bring much benefit and requires serious improvement. They noted that given Grok’s access to data from social network X, it should be able to provide more detailed and accurate information about users. Their verdict was clear: “This feature needs a rethink.”
It should be noted that Platform X warns about possible bugs in Grok: “Grok version 1.5 is an early feature and may contain bugs. Check its results.” We’ll keep you updated on any improvements or changes to this feature as they are implemented.
