TikTok is rolling out a new feature that turns still images into animated AI-generated videos. Called AI Alive, this tool is currently only accessible through the TikTok Story Camera and uses artificial intelligence to apply motion, atmospheric, and creative effects to photos.
For example, if your photo captures the sky, ocean, and clouds, the AI can animate the scene: clouds begin to drift, the sky gradually changes color, and waves subtly move. The tool can also enhance human-centric photos like selfies, emphasizing gestures, expressions, and other visual elements to give a more dynamic feel to the image.
The AI-generated videos are clearly marked as such. TikTok adds a label to indicate that the content was created using AI and embeds C2PA metadata, making it easier for platforms and viewers to recognize the video’s origin. This marking remains even if the video is uploaded or shared outside of TikTok.
How to Use the AI Alive Feature
To try AI Alive, open the TikTok app and access the Story Camera. Tap the blue plus button at the top of your Inbox or profile. Then, choose the photo you want to animate. While editing, tap the AI Alive icon on the right-hand toolbar to generate your video.
At the time of writing, the feature is only available within TikTok Stories, notes NIXSOLUTIONS. There’s no word yet on whether it will expand to regular posts, but we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
This feature adds to the growing list of AI tools being integrated into TikTok, reflecting the platform’s focus on creative expression and innovation. Whether you’re looking to bring a scenic shot to life or add subtle motion to a group selfie, AI Alive offers a quick and accessible way to experiment with visual storytelling. As with many new AI-driven features, its development may continue to evolve based on user engagement and feedback.
